Niche Market Idea: Make Money With Digital Photgraphy!
Not so long ago, making money from photography was the domain of the professional photographer which required a considerable investment in film, expensive photo processing equipment and chemicals etc. Now all you need is a Digital Camera, a computer, an Internet connection and some basic photography and computer skills to start making money from digital photography.
The Freelance Photography Market Is Exploding
Thanks to the Internet right now, digital photographs are in very high demand and the opportunities to sell them online are huge - and the good news is, it isn't going to go away anytime soon.
Most companies are too busy concentrating on their core business to start taking their own photographs. That's where you come in. If you can take a decent picture and you can provide what the market is looking for (No, your holiday snaps won't cut it nor will pictures of your pet hamster), then you can make an excellent income supplying your digital photographs to in demand online photo sites.
Examples Of Stock Digital Photography From Online Photo Sites
These photo sites act as middle men between you and online users. They host your photographs and provide a shop front for your work. When someone downloads your photos from the site they are charged a fee and the photo site takes a proportion of the fee from the transaction, you get the balance. Copyright in your work remains yours. Your digital photograph(s) can be downloaded over and over again and each time they are, you get your portion of the fee producing an excellent stream of residual income.
Just so you know - This is not a get-rich-quick kind of a thing. There is a learning curve to making money from digital photography on the Internet.
Here's some of the professionals and businesses that commonly buy digital photographs online:
But online photo sites aren't the only area where you can profit from your digital photography.
Digital Photography - Offline Examples
Opportuniies offline also abound. Here's a couple of offline digital photographic businesses I've come across in my local area:
One of my next door neighbours has built herself a nice little part time business in wedding and function photography, eaning anywhere between $375 - $1500 per session. She goes to each wedding or function armed with her digital SLR camera, laptop and printer, plus a range of photo mounts, takes her photos, then prints and mounts them, or burns them onto a CD. All this is done at the venue and she gets paid immediately.
Another guy I heard about runs a business photographing family portraits and groups at his clients' homes. He similarly goes armed with a digital SLR camera, laptop and a printer, but with addition of a set of inexpensive backcloths a light diffuser and range of frames and photo mounts. As does my next door neighbour, he prints off the photos and mounts them at his clients' home and gets paid immediately. He makes between $150 and $300 per session.
The examples shown above are just a few of the ways you can profit from your digital photography, there are lots of others. For more information on how to make money from your digital camera, check out these resources (Links open in a new window so you won't lose this page):
